The best ball player that I ever watched. He is a Hall-of-Famer in many people's mind. RIP, Charlie Hustle.

Swear words.... nothing but swear words. He was gonna give a speech at Notre Dame two weeks ago, and got canceled Maybe he was sick..

One day, my brother's little league coach took us to Wrigley for a game. When you get to see Pete Rose and Mike Schmidt play together, you're living big time.

Later in life, Pete's best friend was Frank Thomas. They lived in Las Vegas. It was a big age range between the two. The sports reporter said , "What do you guys talk about ?"
Big Frank "Hitting."

I have my Dad's Pete Rose memory. He was telling the story about going to a double header at Crosley Field in Cincinnati. Dad was in town for accounting work, and they took him to a game. The second game was rained out, and played the next day. The guys did the right thing, and took the rain check and saw a young Pete Rose finish the game with 10 for 10. Dad recounted the game in his patented story telling style.

And I finished the Pete Rose story with him later in his career. It was a game in Cincinnati, and the old man got really frisky about hitting baseballs. Again. I recounted the game like the box score was in front of me. Just picked up where Dad left off. It was a seamless story from Alpha to Omega.

So, that was me & Dad.

America just got down voted for one less hustle.

I never thought it was fair for him to lose his place in the hall of fame because he did accomplish those feats. Legal punishment should have been enough. The greats keep passing off the scene, I hope he ended up in a good place.
