Over Florida

Those are flares. Notice how they are falling and then extinguish. Redland is less than 10 miles from Homestead AFB, home of the USAF water survival school. Part of that training is learning how to fire various types of flares. Air/sea rescue helicopters also drop flares to illuminate the aircrew pickup.

Wonder why the guy who runs that site didn't call the Homestead Public Affairs Office and ask if there were any flares over the base last night?
