News from around California and the rest of the US of A.

That was a great article, I never realized the state of California employed pilots to fly their fire fighting tanker a/c. I figured they contracted out for their pilots, like they do for their maintainers. DynCorp supplies pilots for DoD contract work, they are a huge company with their fingers in a lot of pies. I've worked with a good number of DynCorp guys, all of them either former or retired military. DynCorp has the reputation of being able to get things done, kind of like Halliburton, and the guys I worked with had nothing but good things to say about it as an employer.

There used to be a company at the White Sands Regional Airport in Alamogordo, NM, that converted former USN P-2 Nepture patrol bombers into fire fighting aircraft. I used to run over there and watch them work on and perform functional check flights on the Neptunes, nothing like the sound of big radial piston engines.
