New light shed on Charles Darwin's 'abominable mystery'

Interesting. Stephen J. Gould came up with the theory of "punctuated equilibrium" in 1972. It doesn't explain the origin of flowering plants, but it would explain their sudden proliferation and diversification in the fossil record. Basically, he says that the fossil record doesn't show what's happening at the edges of evolution, but rather, the mainstream. You could have speciation occurring at the margins of populations that doesn't show up until a niche opens, allowing for sudden proliferation and even divergent species being created by the 4 main forces of evolution: Mutation, Genetic Drift, Gene Flow, and Natural Selection. I thought about Gould and his theory as I read the article above. Thanks Duke!

Darwin’s theory has never been proven in 140 years because it doesn’t work. We all can see the species developments to adapt to environmental changes but the missing links have never been found.
