I can relate. I love beer, but save us from the plague of macho overhopping! Hops are the preservative and flavouring with imparts bitterness. A great beer should be perfectly balanced so that the sweetness of the malt is offset by the hops, but in recent years I've had to avoid around half of the beers on offer, which all promise things like 'super hoppy', 'most hops ever', 'new improved recipe with even more hops' and 'seriously you won't believe how much hops is in this, guys! It's basically alcohol and water with sixteen tons of hops in each vat! We don't even bother with yeast or malt anymore! Seriously this is really manly!' I'd love to support the local brewery, but every beer they have ever brewed was like this. :(
Pack it in, people; I want beer, not liquid hops! Just buy a new car or get a girlfriend or something.

I love a good London Porter. Dark, toasty and just all around wonderful. Sadly, it's an out of style drink and the only one on sale around here is pretty sad.
I don't have a favourite brand, as part of the joy of living in the UK has always been having a constantly revolving selection of guest ales, which are mostly great, or at least good. I really miss the Peterborough Beer Festival, which I'd missed for personal reasons for a few years and it's been cancelled the last two because of covid. Here's hoping for next year...

Not a big fan of beer. Too gassy.....

Would prefer a real ale - as a last resort.

Dates are out for next year's festival - 22nd to 26th August at the usual embankment site. You never know, I might take a road trip with the wife.........

I only have beer once or twice through the summer anymore. i used to like trying the local craft beer but as benway stated they seem to all have become so bitter from the hops they are awful.. i swear some taste like you just dumped the flowers out of a vase and drank the water. floral tasting beer is not good
