There is only 1 week until Lammas on August 1st. Lammas is a pagan festival called a Sabbat, it is the beginning of harvest time. when the fields are glowing with corn and wheat and the reaping would begin. The harvest period will continue until Samhain when the last stores for the winter months would be put away.

The word Lammas actually means Loaf Mas to celebrate the harvest it is traditional to cook and eat bread on this day, it is also traditional to make a corn dolly and put her in the centre of the home to bring protection and prosperity throughout the winter months.

Lammas is also known as Lughnasadh as it celebrates the Celtic Sun God Lugh. Lammas is primarily a thanksgiving holiday, when each person gives thanks for the things and blessings in their lives and to thank the God and Goddess for the harvest to come. It is the last embers of Summer and Autumn will start to take over soon.

Even if you are not pagan/wiccan, following the Wheel of the year as it turns can make you very aware of time and it's passing. It reminds us to live in the present and hold sacred each day.
