I feel that way in thrift shops, too. Once, I saw a pair of bronzed baby shoes and it reminded me of how swiftly time passes. Then, I wondered why someone had donated them; they wouldn't mean anything to anyone, but the parent of the baby who once wore those shoes!I agree Duke abandoned old towns do have that standing sadness about them. I can't think of any place that really stands out at the moment. Antique shops bother me. I don't know if I am picking up the vibes from old things or if it is the sadness of lives lived and gone. It is a reminder of passing time and the inevitable moving on that we all must do. When I was young, I liked them but as I have aged it brings things too close to home, I guess.
