Between here and there...

Not counting a home you lived in that might have been haunted, I ask you this:

I was volunteering at a respite house, for lack of a better word. It was a place where people went who were in a mental health crisis but not enough to be hospitalized. The place was situated in an old house. At one point I wandered into an empty room which no one had been assigned to yet. The first thing I noticed was that the room was icy cold. (It was summer outside, and being an old house there was no central air conditioning, nor was there a window unit present.

I asked the staff there why that room was so cold but they were evasive. Later a woman was admitted to the place, and given that room. I was about to leave for the day, when the woman suddenly came out of her room and starting screaming as if terrified out of her wits. After she did not calm down for about fifteen minutes, and ambulance was called and she was taken to the hospital.

It could be assumed that she came there with a chronic health issue, but before she had spent time in that room she had been lucid, calm and chatting with myself and the other residents. I felt convinced that something in that cold room had influenced her. There was another room on the second floor where I distinctly felt watched, as well as experienced cold spots. I later learned that a woman who had been admitted there that year had died shortly after arriving, in that very room. I did not volunteer there long.

Been to a few creepy places in my life but as far as most recent, i'll go with this one. Some months back i was on a job and every time coming in through the back door, this one always closed door seemed to keep drawing my attention. It never occurred to me why i kept being pulled to it, until i had to enter the closed room while troubleshooting an electrical issue. The second i opened the door and entered, every single hair on my body stood on end. Now being a few feet within the small front room, the first thought in my mind was, Oh, Hell No! Out of the corner of my eye i saw the door slowly closing behind me. Stepping backwards, i reopened the door and gingerly backed out of the room, closing it nice and gentle lol. I have no clue 'what' was in there but, i was not in the mood to find out and whatever it was , did not like my very brief and unwanted intrusion.

I remember you sharing that story! Wow, that was extremely creepy!

Medical places are a hot bed for activity. Whether it is spirit related, combined energy of past sickness or both, is creepy enough.

Thankfully i found the problem elsewhere lol. There haven't been many jobs i went to that felt that uncomfortable. The odd thing is the rest of the house was completely free of any bad vibes, only that room.

An old bomb shelter in a bush area in Sydney. We used to play in the area, an old estate on the river with a cement bomb shelter from WW2. I only went in once and it seemed like stepping into hell. I'm sure bad things happened in there over the years. Other kids called me a wimp but even then I could pick up on unseen things so I didn't care. They didn't pick on me after my mate ripped his arm open in there, it was weird because there were no sharp edges or anything inside it that could have cut him.

I'm with you, Oz. Intuition takes front and center and if others don't agree, well, let's see who walks away unscathed lol. I guess we never really walk away untouched, do we? Tapping into those vibes does leave an emotional imprint that those who don't pick up on them, will never quite understand.

Two early jobs i went to also fit the list. First electrical company i worked for, we went to a job and i distinctly remember the second we pulled up, i kept getting drawn to a second floor window. I found this unnerving as not even getting out of the truck yet, something about that place felt off. It was a remodel job and we were there to finish up a few more things. Inside the house, the vibe wasn't bad, though the living room did have a feel to it. I must say, the second floor rear balcony did have an awesome view of the island (Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate and Longport). The other was an early side job i did. It is a local apartment building that needed wired/battery back up smoke detectors for rental code. I old worked them in and finished in the low ceiling dirt basement. That was my first introduction to what i could describe as the 'fear cage effect'. The existing wiring was atrocious so maybe that's what caused the claustrophobic feeling down there. The entire time being under the building i felt as though someone was following close behind (virtually on my back) as i ran the wiring. I finished as quickly as i could, got paid and got out of there.

When I was a kid, around 9 or 10, I got real interested in magic shows and my Mom got me books on card and sleight of hand tricks. She also took me to magic stores around town which was always fun. The staff all knew the tricks and were happy to demonstrate, and to really sell the mysterious vibes they were almost all decorated like a modern day Spirit Halloween store with a lot of black and creepy occult accoutrements. None of this really bothered me as I "knew" all that stuff was fake. (This was before my Glimmer Man encounter)

When I was about 13 or 14 or I went to a small magic shop in West Hollywood that had some interesting stuff but also gave me the creeps. There was nothing fundamentally different about this particular shop but it felt heavy and claustrophobic. It also felt "dirty", not physically unclean but like something sexually perverted. At that age the only thing I could compare it to was like accidentally wandering into an adult book store.

I kept having the feeling that the clerk was watching me, which happened in other stores since appearance wise I matched the description of about half the shoplifters in Los Angeles. Except everytime I looked over the clerk was just reading his book. There was nobody else there but I definitely felt like I was being watched. I wanted to see what all they had but part of me wanted to leave and I couldn't explain why. And aside from the uncomfortable feelings nothing actually happened there.

I actually had a few nightmares about that shop in the months afterwards. Dreams where I was stuck in the shop with something inside that wouldn't let me leave. The strangest of these dreams involved me being so scared that I felt the need to pray for help, but couldn't. In my dream I was stuck in this shop and my throat would close up if I tried to say "Jesus". I finally was able to fight through and call out "Help me Jesus" and thats when I was able to leave in my dream. I never dreamt of that place again.

Long abandoned ghost towns strike me as creepy, and sad. I've been through a few in the US (CA and NM,) but the saddest were the abandoned towns and villages in Ireland. They were left abandoned as a result of the potato famime, residents either going abroad or dying of starvation.
