I have no practical experience with liquid fuel rockets, but rockets in general involve extremely high pressures and temperatures. Often rockets explode due to a casing rupture/burn through at what's colloquially known as a "hot spot." Throw in all the complex plumbing and valving involved with liquid fuel and even the smallest issue can become catastrophic.
