How America’s once great department stores became a dying breed

Montgomery Ward was our family's go-to department store when I was growing up. It's now long gone and replaced by an internet retailer that bought the name.

JCPenny's and M. Ward were the absolute "big time" high end shopping options in my family growing up. For "special" outfits for holidays, these were the go to stores.

Kind of miss the old 5 and 10 stores. Big department stores i miss the large Christmas catalogs. Way back when on Saturdays my mom would take us in to Philly, grab my grandmom and go shopping in some of the old school ones and always have lunch of our choice.

Ohhh, you are hitting me hard in the memories there, Selectric. Sigh.
