Cheaper end double stack 9mm anyone can recommend as being reliable? I could get a high point (ha) for $180 new but high points are known for jamming. Looking for the $200-$300 range or just above it to maybe max $500

200-300 range is limited, not un doable, but limited....try out the smith and Wesson sigma series....find those on sale for 300 or so every so often.... the smith and Wesson m&p is excellent and usually just around 5oo...Taurus makes a couple 9mm for around 300 that are decent....don't go the hi-point route for everyday carry....like carrying a brick....lol

Hi Points are big and bulky (and ugly), I wouldn't carry one because they are, well...like carrying a brick. I also have small hands. That said, they are very reliable. Check out test reviews in any number of gun magazines (Gun Tests, Gun and Ammo, Combat Handguns, Shooting Times, etc) and they always test very well and usually get named a "best buy" when judged against other handguns. They are also American made and have a no-questions-asked life time warranty.

I can't comment on the reliability, as I have never personally been on the range with one. But I wouldn't put them down just because of hearsay....I'm not a gun snob, don't own a glock...hahaha....j/k....anything is better than nothing, but they are deffinately not made for concealed carry....just don't fit what my personal tastes would be for ease of use or comfort for carry.

I've fired them, too big and bulky for me to shoot comfortably with any degree of confidence. If I could shoot them comfortably/confidently, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one for my truck, maybe even one to stash in the house.

The $200-$300 range is pretty limited, I don't see much there that I would trust my life on.

I have heard good things about the Canik 9mm, one of the guys at my gun store says he likes the stock Canik trigger better than the stock Glock trigger. I've seen these for about $325-$350.

If you're willing to spend more, $400-$500 range, there are a number of great options. I picked up a CZ P07 recently for $430 and it's a great piece.

Yes I really really love the CZ brand I was looking at those.

I've only put a few hundred rounds through mine, though my kids are helping, but so far I'm pretty pleased with it. The only issue I have run into is finding accessories. Every gun store around me has dozens of aftermarket sights, spare magazines and holsters for Glocks, but when it comes to CZ the choices are limited.

Shotgun News did an article on Canik firearms a few years back, the author toured the plant in Turkey and was very impressed.

CZ makes great firearms, very reliable. I have a surplus CZ82 I really enjoy shooting, but I have a tough time finding other than cheap knockoff magazines for it.
