If I know the persons story, that is what I usually tell them also...but over the years I have found that a very large amount of ppl don't know what limp wristing is, don't think about all the situations that will test your comfort level and that very few ppl really know what stress actually does to a person in this type situation.....you will be operating on what you have been taught and practiced. If you can't clear a malfunction or perform a speedy reload you lose.....( hint here, don't wait till you run out of ammo.....lol...of course this also is situational but just something to think about. )....
So I do sometimes just throw things to think about out there to be discussed and maybe think of things they haven't before..

To recite the hulk or David Banner dont make me angry. You wont like me when I'm angry. If I had to use a weapon the outcome would not be good for anyone. I dont like me when i'm angry, I HATE when people make me angry. it hurts to be angry. Anger is bad.

I do however keep a few weapons at my disposal most are not legal in the states. I also have a book called the anarchist cookbook, most that I have used in the past I know the recipe by heart there are some I hope i never use. I have read and under stand the art of war by Sun Tzu if you have ever read this you know you can defeat most enemy's with common sense, if you feel the need to carry a fire arm, I understand, I do not (most of the time) the best weapon you can have for "everyday carry" like the title of this thread reads.. is playing the tapes of a possible situation forward to avoid getting yourself in hot water.

I do not think she can do more than 9mm yet. Maybe after getting comfortable with 9. I love the .357 mag and 16 inches of penetration but I have had experiences and seen many videos where 6 rounds wouldn't have been enough. Which is why I would also love to have a 9mm which can as you know easily hold 17+1 standard. A .40 px4 has 14+1 or 15+1 which is feel like 3 bullets or whatever is worth the trade into .40.

I also would love a .357 mag derringer but I don't know how realistic it would be a backup or double backup. Guess it's all situational. A .357 mag derringer is like $500-$700 so quite the investment to wavering on lol.

True, There could be situations where 6 rounds may not be enough, maybe a home invasion with multiple intruders etc... But in situations usually requiring more than six rounds you had also better be training in the use of cover and concealment, ( and know the difference between the two)... Its not so much the caliber as to the training....I would be comfortable carrying a 380 or even a 22 , shot placement and staying calm is more important than caliber. Training in multiple situations,.. off handed firing... In the dark, ... Take away your comfort levels and train for the worst....also know your invironment, is there anything or any innocents on the other side of the wall your firing towards, will your rounds penetrate exterior walls, think of your neighbors..I don't get into the caliber debate because everyone has their own favorite and their own set ideas on what each caliber is capable of, when control and training can pretty much make all calibers equil ( to an extent.)...does your wife wear a holster????? Keeping a gun in their pocket book is the one mistake most ladies make...you are far more likely to be the victim of a purse snatching than a full on warzone type encounter...and if someone snatches your purse, your gun inside don't help much...lol...there is soooo much more to train and learn besides which caliber is best.

Carrying in a bag or a purse should be illegal for that exact reason. In Canada if you’re one of the lucky few to get an ATC (Authorisation To Carry) for concealed weapons, you have to wear it. That should be common sense though

Agreed. Off body carry is probably the worst CCW trend out there.

As to the caliber debate, I think it's more important to find a pistol that's comfortable enough to shoot that the carrier will practice more often. Having a bigger, more powerful round isn't worth as much if you dread heading to the range.

Self defence is not about being angry...don't let anger control you....
The anarchist cookbook, WOW, I havent seen that since the mid 80's, in the ad section of Soldier of fortune magazine, lol...that is also about revenge and the getting even mentality....not good, anger and revenge will consume you, burn you up....don't go there. Just let it go before reaching that point....now the art of war I have, good reading, as is the book of five rings and the tao te ching...must haves in any good collection....here's a quote from someone that explains self defence in another way, good quote when pondered and meditated on....

"There are those misguided persons in the world
    who would see you harmed.
They will confront you with fists
or await you in the dark with blades drawn.
    Do not fear them
    or become angry with them.
Allow your heart to hold the emptiness of purity.
Your receptive spirit will hear the sadness and rage
    of your attackers' intentions
    and your body will flow
with the winds of their hatred.
You will take them to the destruction they seek."

Now whether you know or agree or even like the guy who made this quote doesn't matter, some of his philosophies and teachings were actually pretty good....lol..

Yes I got hit by a drunk driver with like 15 cholos (mexican gangsters) who tried to frame me, maybe even paid off the cops, stole from me, said they would kill me and my wife and the police came down on me. It was like $20,000 of damages on my insurance because the police didn't even get the other people's ID. And the PD cited the Supreme Court as to why police don't have to physically protect citizens and hence why they wouldn't protect me if they tried to attack me. So yeah I bought a revolver after that. But 6 bullets wouldn't have been enough. Here (for now) we have a micro draco 7.62x39 or 5.56 that is classified as a pistol.
Would like to have that for a car or back pack gun. And have several others types on my person.

In Texas is relatively common to have a long rifle or higher caliber loaded and ready in the floorboard but you never leave it out
