We have always traditionally had cabbage with whatever we had for the meal. I can't remember a time when this wasn't a New Year's "must." Now, my dad also ate pickled herring for the New Year for luck.

In the past we’ve celebrated with friends and it was a lot luck meal. Everyone brought their easy go to dish. This year we’ve decided to stay home. We decided on Swedish meatballs on noodles. Easy for the two of us. As far as luck, I don’t think it has a food connection lol. I am praying and setting intentions for a good year. Let’s all think happy thoughts that this year will be the corner turned on this pandemic.

Like Debi, pork & cabbage. It's a Slavic thing.
The old Swedes made lutefisk in the basement.
I hope I didn't Jinx the new year because I had homemade Chinese food. Sorry.
