The bottom dropped out over northern Texas and Oklahoma overnight. Rainfall broke records and river banks, and killed a firefighter early Sunday, as emergency crews scrambled to pull residents from floodwaters.

With more rain falling, the torrents have already pushed Oklahoma City handily past a rain record, and rescuers have carried out at least 48 high-water rescues.

By late Saturday, 3.15 inches had drenched the city, bringing the total for the month to 17.61 inches. "It ... shatters the all-time monthly record of 14.66 inches set in June of 1989," said CNN weather producer Sean Morris.

And in the town of Claremore, near Tulsa, a firefighter died while attempting a high-water rescue, said local emergency manager Thomas Hudson.

In Hays County, Texas, adjacent to Austin, hundreds of people were rescued or evacuated from their homes, according to the sheriff's office. "It is expected that a full-scale search and rescue mission will begin when the sun comes up," said Lt. Jeri Skrocki.

Many of the rescues were along the Blanco River, she said. Hays County set up emergency shelters in two schools, a community center and a nursing home.

Not that anybody out there in MSM is covering this much, but we will! For all of you affected by this weather, we're sending up prayers for your safety. sal, how is it there in TX this morning?

it was nasty this morning. I went out about 2am and you could not see 2 feet in front of you. The rain looked like it was coming down horizontally. We had the tornado warnings last night but luckily all we got was high winds. Down south is a mess. I think we have about 231 roads closed to flooding when i last checked. It is building again in the west so it is not over yet. They are predicting rain everyday until June 1st. If the idiots would stop going through the low water crossings, we would be fine.

Tornados struck, severely damaging an apartment complex in Houston, Texas. A firefighter in Oklahoma was swept to his death while trying to rescue 10 people in high water. And the body of a man was recovered from a flooded area along the Blanco River, which rose 26 feet in just one hour and left piles of wreckage 20 feet high, authorities in Texas said.

"It looks pretty bad out there," said Hays County emergency management coordinator Kharley Smith, describing the destruction in Wimberley, part of a fast-growing corridor between Austin and San Antonio. "We do have whole streets with maybe one or two houses left on them and the rest are just slabs," she said.

More than 350 homes in the town of Wimberley were washed away by the flash floods, and several people remained missing. Kenneth Bell, the emergency management coordinator in nearby San Marcos, said the damage in Hays County alone amounts to "millions of dollars."

Rivers rose so fast that whole communities woke up Sunday morning surrounded by water. The Blanco crested above 40 feet, more than double its flood stage of 13 feet, swamping Interstate 35 and forcing parts of the busy north-south highway to close. Rescuers used pontoon boats and a helicopter to pull people out.

Dallas also faced severe flooding from the Trinity River, which was expected to crest near 40 feet Monday and lap at the foundations of an industrial park. The Red and Wichita rivers also rose far above flood stage.

Wow....All this going on and the MSM pretty much is giving this no media coverage to speak of.

It is odd. I emailed my sister yesterday in NY who is usually glued to the tube. She said they did mention it but not a big deal.

Laura McComb, 33, and her two children, Leighton, four, and six-year-old Andrew, (pictured left) have been missing since Sunday when their vacation river home was swept away by the surging waters in Wimberley, Texas. Jonathan McComb, 36, survived the flooding on the Blanco River (right) and was being treated at Brooke Army Medical Center for a collapsed lung, broken rib and sternum. Five others who were staying at the home over the holiday weekend were also missing. Dentist Ralph H. Carey and his wife Sue, from Corpus Christi, were among those being searched for on Monday. Their daughter, Michelle, her husband Randy Charba and son Will, had also disappeared.

I know that at least 3 of our regular posters have been impacted in various ways by this flood, from minor damage to internet/power outages. Many more of you out there are also feeling the impact of this. Prayers to all of you dealing with this crisis and prayers for those who have died or are missing and their families. The latest reports are now 9 dead, 12 missing, and 13 dead in the border town tornado in Mexico.

Recovery teams were resuming the search early Tuesday for 12 people who are missing after a rain-swollen river in Central Texas carried a vacation home off its foundation, slamming it into a bridge downstream.

The hunt for the missing picked up after a holiday weekend of terrible storms that dumped record rainfall on the Plains and Midwest, caused major flooding and spawned tornadoes and killed at least 11 in Oklahoma and Texas. More than 1,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed in Texas, and thousands of residents are displaced.

In the Houston area, authorities located two bodies Tuesday after powerful storms rolled through the area, The Houston Chronicle reported. It is believed the two drowned in the flooding in the area. Authorities urged Houston residents to avoid all travel, and CenterPoint Energy reported that over 70,000 customers in the Houston area were without power.

Authorities say a total of three people died in Harris County, Texas -- which includes Houston -- and between 500 and 700 homes have sustained some level of damage.

Houston Mayor Annise Parker says city officials will be vigilant as the area's waterways swell with several inches of rain.

Parker said at a news conference on Tuesday morning that "we're on the alert for folks in their houses as the bayous continue to rise."

A good friend of mine posted a video on YouTube of his family estate in Wimberley, Texas.
OMG! Bob, that's awful! I know we have several people down that way who are members who are being affected, but this is just terrible for your friend. :(
