I am surprised we haven't heard any conspiracy theories about this thing tanking, like the military working behind the scenes to disrupt and discredit the event.
Didn't need to have one. It's been a mess since the beginning!

'Extraterrestrial highway' sign is taken down

A world-famous sign situated near the secretive Area 51 facility has been taken down by local authorities.
Emblazoned with the words "Extraterrestrial Highway" in bold white letters on a green background, the famous sign has long greeted visitors to State Route 375 in south-central Nevada.

Now though, local authorities have taken the decision to remove the sign on a temporary basis because of the number of people expected to flock to the region over the next week or so.

According to Nevada Department of Transportation public information officer Tony Illia, the sign had been due for replacement anyway.

"As such, we will be removing it prior to the 'alien-fest' event and replacing it afterwards to help reduce traffic congestion at this location due to people stopping to take pictures," he said.

"Additionally, it's one of our most stolen highway signs statewide."

Last week, 'Storm Area 51' founder Matty Roberts announced that his planned 'Alienstock' festival had been cancelled in favor of an event in Downtown Las Vegas on September 19th.

Even so, there are several other events set to take place in the vicinity of the base itself.

With only a few days left to go, it will certainly be interesting to see what happens.

According the folks at the Li'l AleInn, they've still got plenty going on, and, in fact, the announcement came out that Alienstock had been moved to Vegas, but a number of the people involved, including band managers, said that they hadn't coordinated with Matty Roberts, but with the AleInn folks for the festival. So who knows what's going to happen.
But seriously, did anyone really think anyone was planning to storm Area 51? I mean, seriously?

They can at least lay claim to the largest disorganized mess ever sorta kinda "planned."

Lincoln County may sue Facebook, ‘Storm Area 51’ creators for funds

So they are going to sue a 21 year old college kid and the owner of cafe who is struggling just to stay in business over an ill advised event the county could have put the skids on from the word "go."

There will be a movie about this.
not only that, but can you actually sue someone for an idea, suggestion or joke, if allowed this would open a can of worms that would have no end.... panama city, Daytona or ft Lauderdale could sue the college systems for spring break, or towns along the way could sue the organizers for burning man or any other festival that brings an unwanted crowd through.....this is not a good idea and surely would not get very far in the court system...just another media play for attention

the travel channel has a pop up ad that uses the "storm area 51" catch phrase for their alien highway show... it fades in for just a second as it announces the show then fades back out.... was really surprised to see that used, so it is still being spotlighted in a way in the main stream.....

Absolutely, but we can go even one step beyond your initial point. The county actually issued permits for two separate events. Now they are going to sue the people who requested and received permission to hold those events.

Permits approved for two alien-themed festivals in Nevada

Been reading a blog out of Rachel, in light of the Lincoln Co. contemplating a lawsuit against the event promoters, locals are now apparently considering filing a class action suit themselves. One would guess they will follow the "deep/wide pockets" litigation approach and sue every one involved. Going to be a lot of work for attorneys in Nevada.

This drama is getting wilder than the UFO "conspiracy" that was originally promoted! I feel bad for the town of Rachel. Their lives have been turned upside down with this and now they're getting nothing more than an alien probe.
