Embarrassing Shopping Incident

In one of my first trips to the UK back in the 90s, I had an afternoon to kill and decided to visit the legendary "Harrods" department store in central London.

As I was strolling through this amazing store, I was so busy gawking I literally walked up on and through a tiny nun. Down she went, it would have been a 15 yd penalty for a block in the back. I immediately bent down to help her up, repeating "I'm so sorry, Sister." As I reached to her, her head turned to me and I realized.....she wasn't a nun. It was an elderly Muslim woman in a black burka, and she was chattering away a mile a minute (in what I assumed was Arabic) as she was helped to her feet. She was not happy.

Within a minute of me running in to her, store security (two large men of Middle Eastern heritage) arrived on the scene. One of them talked to me in English, the other to the woman in her language. I contritely explained exactly what happened, and apologized. No idea what she told the other guy, but at my first opportunity I beat feet and left the store. I kept imagining the BBC headline, "DoD Official Assaults Elderly Muslim Woman in Harrods."

Yes, that is very embarrassing!

I can't remember any really embarrassing incidents while shopping, but can remember one that happened to my younger sister when we were shopping together. We were in the elevator and she had her toddler with her, in a stroller. Several other people got in the elevator, including a young man who stood directly in front of my sister. She had her handbag slung over the handle of the stroller and it started to slip to the floor. So she tried to grab it before it fell. Somehow, her hand came in contact with the young man's backside. He swiftly turned to look at her and she kept apologizing but he wasn't buying it!

What the most embarrassing thing you ever either had happen to you or witnessed while shopping?
Every single time shopping with my brother in the same store. Between hopping on the store PA system, walking down random aisles and chucking stuff behind him for us to catch, racing through a store with me in the cart and smashing into a giant gumball machine...then left to suffer the aftermath lol.....

Ive been cracking up all day just thinking of the stupid and embarrassing things ive seen and done!
Most of my stories are not PG-13.

Ok, here's one.

There is a big Catholic Hospital next to a grocery store that I used to visit.
Now I've heard this second hand. When a Priest isn't looking and is away from his shopping cart, throw in a package of condoms.
