My thoughts exactly. How can a rock be dated? Isn’t all rock foundation material? I’m confused.

The date I refer to is the date it was found on the moon. They brought it back here to earth and now, all these years later, they have discovered they have this rock and just now looked at it. They discovered it's from Earth but was found on the moon. It just took them 48 years to figure out what they have there.
I get that and was wondering too, what took so long. However the article says it’s 4 billion years old.

OK, we need to ask the astronomer that one. I think they can carbon date these things?
