Do I really sound like that?

After hearing a tape of myself, I gave up my college radio show soon thereafter. The prof who ran the station tried to talk me out of it, but telling me there was nothing wrong with a "reedy voice" was not a self esteem builder in an era of mahogany voiced, FM rock DJs.

On the second forum I ever joined in early '09, one of the most popular questions of all time was titled ''What do y'all sound like?" and people would record their voices and post it to the board. Many posters participated but I wasn't one of them. I loathe my own voice when played back and will often shy away from ever being recorded. It's deep but I don't sound like I'm from the south at all.

So glad I saw this! Yes, I agree 100% I have a pair of bone-conducting headphones that are bizarre but very helpful in keeping me present and listening to my voice. They are weird. I discovered them because I was researching this ENT (ear nose throat) specialist from Paris who uses a special bone conduction feedback loop and playing specific sounds, frequencies, music to help stimulate the areas of ear /brain that are needed for target accent, language. Tomatis is his name. Developed 60 years ago in France.Unique.

I think it bothers people because the voice is like a stranger when we think we know ourselves completely. Good subject.

Hahahaaa.
I really don’t get the big deal. Doesn’t bother me a bit. However I don’t use my voice for a carrier. Now I really want to hear Dukes voice. Lol.
