A strange stone sitting in a French village could net someone a sizeable sum of money should they be able to decipher a mysterious message inscribed into the rock. Located in the community of Plougastel-Daoulas, the puzzling find is reportedly covered in large capital letters with no discernible meaning. Alongside the possibly encoded message are the dates 1786 and 1787, which have led many to surmise that the writing was inscribed over two centuries ago. Another curious clue contained on the rock is a picture of a boat.

Since its discovery a few years ago, numerous individuals aware of the mysterious stone have attempted to solve the riddle, but no one has been able to crack the code. According to the mayor of Plougastel-Daoulas, people who have examined the writing on the stone have theorized it could be an ancient or archaic language such as Basque or old Breton, but these suggestions apparently did not help very much as "we still have not managed to decipher the text."

As such, in an attempt to put the matter to rest once and for all, officials in the village have announced a reward of around $2,250 to anyone who can pull off the confounding feat and figure out what the message says. For any would-be code breaker wishing to try their hand at the challenge, a small sample of the writing on the rock reads "ROC AR B… DRE AR GRIO SE EVELOH AR VIRIONES BAOAVEL… R I OBBIIE: BRISBVILAR… FROIK…AL."
