Debi's Wildlife Updates

Announcing that "Dodge City" is now reopened, with the arrival of Matt Dillon the Groundhog! Matt waddled his way out and about yesterday, through several yards, munching happily on new growth as he went. (The sale of chicken wire to protect recent plantings has most likely doubled today!)

So far Matt is the only one I've spotted, but he's the big boy and hard to miss. Joy had not seen this new beastie before, so her eyes about popped out of her head when she spotted him crossing the yard. She did not growl or meow at him yet, so as long as he stays on the ground level she may accept the gang from Dodge roaming around here. Shall keep you posted as I spot the rest of the residents.

Cats are so territorial! Avalon used to rush at the front door in a rage when the local strays ventured onto our porch.

Joy has a kitty fit when she sees other cats outside. When I got her she came with the labels "nippy and one cat only home required for adoption". When I said I'd take her the shelter people actually hugged me cuz at 8 yrs. old she was in jeopardy of not finding an adopter. She was kept in a room away from other cats cuz she would fight with everybody...and she's still looking for a fight when she sees other cats outside! She's quite lovey dovey with family now and no longer nips (which I really feel was just a fright reflex), but let a cat show up and it's on! Or Rocky Raccoon...lol

Squirrels and birds no problem. Bunnies and possums seem to also be on her "OK" list as long as they are just moving along through the yard. Matt the Groundhog still seems to be "iffy" but no flinging herself at the window yet.

Debi you have such a close up view! It’s better than tv!!
My orange ball of fur also believes it's her TV! I really do enjoy the wildlife out there. My son Michael told me he thinks I've called in all the wildlife in a 5 mile area...lol He's "worried" the neighbors might think a hedge witch lives in the neighborhood. ;bg3 ;)
