A lot of folks out there might make for decent guests… but very few are cut out to be broadcasters or good interviewers.

That’s always been a bit of a pet peeve of mine—when guests walk away thinking they should start a show of their own.

Now, I understand the instinct. There’s a desire to control your own narrative, steer your own message. I get it. But here’s the truth: when you step into the role of host without the craft, without the time spent honing the art of the interview, your message doesn’t grow—it loses something. It becomes repetitive, maybe even suspect.

When I was behind the mic, it took years to find my rhythm, my voice. Broadcasting isn’t just about talking—it’s about listening, guiding, timing. It’s an art. And not everyone’s meant to paint on that canvas.

Time to come back Bob. You were made for radio.

Sometimes… life just happens. And when it does, you step back, take a breath, and let the world spin without you for a while. But if the fire still flickers—if that quiet call of the night returns—then so shall I. And if I do, it won’t be to echo the usual names or recycle the same tired book tours.

No—if I return, it will be to conduct the symphony of the night. To open the airwaves not to the familiar, but to the forgotten, the strange, and the voices we’ve yet to hear. It’s time for something different. Something real.
Because the night deserves more than reruns.
