As an apprentice Greenkeeper I had an unusual encounter. I would start work at 6.30am six days a week at a bowling club in Sydney. It was on the North Shore and the members were very wealthy and snobby, apart from an old ex boxer who had made quite a bit of money back in his day. He would be there every morning when I arrived on the back green having a roll up after rolling the dew off the green. He was a nice guy and it saved me doing it, even though he got in the way a bit. One morning I came in and there was Jimmy, he waved as usual but I noticed the dew wasn't rolled off. I went to the workshop to get the roller but Jimmy had gone. My boss arrived, late as usual lol and was putting up the flags when he stopped at half mast. Being a club for oldies It didn't surprise me as someone was always dropping off their perch. I asked who now, the boss replied old Jimmy died last night. When I told him I'd seen Jimmy this morning, even though a skeptic, he believed me. We both went in the club for a scotch before finishing the greens.
