I'd like to think it was a trick of light and clothing but I could clearly see her features and her hair color. She had chubby cheeks and these were clearly defined.

Did your family dismiss it then as nothing? I wonder what it really was?

No, we didn't dismiss it. I remember my brother calling out in surprise to come and look, and we all crowded in the doorway staring. We didn't know what to make of it but we all saw the exact same thing.
