During a Reddit AmA last week, scientists and researchers working on the Event Horizon Telescope Project (EHT) revealed that Earthlings could finally get a glimpse at the elusive black hole at the center of our own mysterious Milky Way Galaxy as early as 2017.

A group of approximately 75 researchers and 9 confirmed radio telescope arrays are being employed around the world for this event. They aim to confirm or deny major theories about Black Holes, including one recently revised by Dr. Stephen Hawking, who now thinks that it may be possible to actually pass particles and wave-forms through the black hole to reach another Universe on the other side.

Hawking now estimates that as an object enters the Black Hole’s event horizon (point of no return) the object’s quantum information could be stored in this area, allowing a copy of the object to successfully reappear somewhere in another universe. Dr. Hawking explains,

Classically, a black hole is independent of its past history. I shall assume this is also true in the quantum domain.
How then can a black hole emit the information about the particles that fell in?

The answer, I propose, is that the information is stored in a super-translation of the horizon that the in-going particles caused.”

Could Black Holes Become the Future of Inter-dimensional Space Travel?
Unfortunately, Dr. Hawking estimates that the original object passing through a Black Hole could be returned on our side in a “chaotic and useless form,” much like a Star Trek transporter room malfunction. At best, Hawking discusses the idea of observing packets of information in the form of light to test these theories.

Still, the Event Horizon Telescope project is currently processing “~10x the amount of data of the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland” per day to reach their goal for viewing this phenomenon. Three more telescope arrays are expected to join the project soon, including one situated at the South Pole. The EVT’s observations may re-write our understanding of quantum physics as we know it.

“In 2017, we’ll add ALMA, a huge facility in Chile, and that will enable a really good shot at bringing a (black hole) into focus for the first time.”

ALMA, the ‘Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array’, uses 66 high-precision antennas located 5,000 foot above sea level in the high altitudes of Chile’s Chajnantor plateau.

Mark your calendars! Do you think that Dr. Hawking’s proposed theories could be correct? What do you think might on the other side?

To be more accurate they are looking at the effects the black hole has on the material it consumes. By definition you can not observe a black hole directly, so we must look at it indirectly by examining its effect on the universe around it.
