I don't get the bit about the aquarium cracking because it got down to 20°F outside. Small hairline thermal cracks in glass can occur when a temperature gradient causes different parts of the glass to expand by different amounts, but unless a heating element in one area failed, the water temperature should have been fair consistent. Could also have been a flaw in the glass....assuming it was glass. I'd have thought it would have been acrylic or even polycarbonate.
