Following on from Bob's post and my answer, it dawned on me just how many times I have started awkward conversations with complete strangers.

This is something nobody seems to offer advice on so I thought it would be worth discussing tactics.

People like us sense or see spirits, and often gain a lot of information at a location - but then what? Sometimes I have tried to catch an owner at a quiet time and quietly suggest that the place may have an active spirit, and was confirmed.
Other times I am confident enough to brazenly drop in casual conversation "oh - do you know you have a ghost in the basement - and when was the fire?". This one fell on new staff members who looked a bit shocked. :D

I have sat opposite two women at a bar and just blurted out - are you witches? - to which the answer was yes, but weren't obviously dressed as such...and the conversation continued.

I have also sat next to a doctor at a dinner party, and I don't know what it was but I just knew she was one. I said something which followed along that line, and she went very quiet, but cornered me later and asked how I knew? We got along well after that.

I have asked staff in quite a few places about resident spirits - usually to the answer that they don't know, but later research proves me right.

I suppose I am just labelled as that weird guy or some kind of freak, but makes me curious as to how you broach the subject. Or if you ever do?

I guess I have to ask, what is the purpose of dropping that info in their lap? Many times I may "know" or sense something and say nothing. I simply feel if it was info they wanted to share with me, they would. Otherwise, it can make people feel like their own sacred space of their minds or self has been violated. The one thing I try not to do is garner info when I haven't been invited to do so.

Now, when it comes to the spirits/ghosts, I can see that kind of sharing. But to out two witches and a doc would be over my line. Just my opinion, but one rule I was taught waaay back in the beginning was you should have the invite to read someone and if it happened anyway, you didn't need to share that you knew.

I agree, Debi. Sometimes, I have had experiences where I blurted something because I thought it was obvious, only to find that I had freaked someone out. Example: I was exiting the hospital after a routine procedure, and the hospital had a policy that if you had anesthesia, you had to leave in a wheelchair. So the aide who wheeled my chair outside to the car appeared pregnant, so I asked her when the baby was due. To my dismay, she looked shocked, and asked how on earth I knew that she was pregnant? When I looked at her again, I saw that she didn't look pregnant at all. I think I mumbled something about her having a healthy glow, or something like that. But she still looked at me askance and I was glad to leave that situation!

I have to agree with Debi, I have lived / and did some work for a while in a place that is very paranormally active. a lot of work and social meetings were with ppl who were wiccan... once you are around enough you can pick them out from a crowd by their mannerisms, dress, art, etc... but I would never just ask, esp. if in a crowd of other ppl....as far as anything else paranormal I just ignore most times, not my place to bring it up I don't think...

I've occasionally asked about ghost stories associated with old buildings/facilities, but I have no ability to sense such things. When I've asked, it's generally just because of the age/history of the building involved.

On the other hand, over my career at NASA and with the USAF, I've asked dozens, probably a hundred or more, of aircrew about seeing UFOs. I always did it "off the clock," and never at any time during a mishap investigation. I never used the term "UFO" (unless the aircrew did) and approached the subject by asking if they had ever seen anything while flying "they couldn't identify." Most had, with some being more willing to talk about their experiences than others.

    Interesting replies. Thank you.

I Just can't help reading people, and there is a certain something about wiccans. I don't 'out' anyone as it is always a private conversation -but making the first move to talk about such things is always a risk. - You don't just ask random people if they are a witch unless you know.

Duke brings up an interesting point. Forces people just don't talk about such things. To do so would risk your position. My Ex father in law was a squadron Leader in the Air Force, and later on ended up doing personnel duties. Plenty of stories from him of spirit activity.

Don't worry..I won't turn you into a frog. ;) BTW, just for the record, not all Wiccans are Witches and not all Witches are Wiccan. Witchcraft is a craft, and those who practice it are called witches. Wicca is a religion, and not all who are Wiccan practice the craft.

I know it's complicated. Many paths and crossovers. It might be that you can sense shielding, or just a feeling of a raised or different energy.
Powerful people have powerful auras....Not that I can read auras. Something I can't do.
