Yes, I'm currently car shopping. I frequently find myself walking out of a dealership shaking my head.

Tell us about you experiences over the years buying cars from dealerships. What's the most ridiculous thing you ever had a car salesperson tell you in an effort to sell you a car?

There are two that come to mind. One, while i was looking at a car, took it for a test drive and it broke down before we got back to the dealership lol. I remember the manager giving us a hard time because of it lol. Well, sorry dude. Your car is a POS. Not my problem. Second was one day after work i was just looking at trucks. I parked across the road at the tiny shopping center and walked over. I didn't get onto the property when a salesman literally jumped from nowhere and asked if i was being helped. I said, i just got one foot beyond your fence, ummm, no lol. So, looked at an F-150 and eventually into the building to haggle the price. I told the guy right off the bat what i would pay/afford. Well, the negotiation started for awhile and by the end, i had the manager approach me and give a final number. I told him, well, i will go home and crunch some numbers. I was not made of money and had various bills to pay and wanted to be sure i could afford it. This guy stared at me like i had three heads and replied, i don't know what you mean. When i stood up from the table and leaned into his face, every person in the place stopped and watched. I said, i want to make sure i can pay for it. What don't you understand? The guy turned red and said how much can you afford?! I repeated the exact same amount i have been saying since stepping onto the property lol. I got the truck for that price!

My wife didnt know you could negotiate car prices. Really bugged me! I said that's the price? He said yes. I said well have a nice day and was ready to walk considering I didnt want a jeep that bad. Then the wife got mad and said we'll take it! I wanted a diesel truck and had built one on the dodge site and we were just supposed to go order my truck! I had the price and everything i wanted already worked out! Instead I ended up with a jeep i didnt really want and paid too much for it.
Im over jeeps! Never again! Toyota is now my go to! Only American car id own would be an original hummer and replace the engine. Other than that Toyota for suv's and BMW or Mercedes for cars. Always lease a BMW or Mercedes! The resale on them sucks and under a lease they fix everything and all maintenance. Then you can upgrade every 3yrs!

I went into a dealership yesterday for the express purpose of driving a particular vehicle. I showed the young salesman which one I wanted to I drive, he invited inside to "do the paperwork."

After he got my driver's license and proof of insurance, he wasted 25 minutes trying to enter the information and print it out. He then left that paperwork with me as he went to get the car and......he never came back. I waited 30 minutes before I walked out.

Years ago my brother saw an MG sports car at a dealership and talked me into going in. There was a guy sitting at the desk who looked liked Snidely Whiplash with a long waxed moustache with two giant Lebanese bouncers standing either side of him. The car was worth around $15 000 so bro offered the guy two grand, which he didn't have and the guy excepted . The car had no paper work and obviously stolen so I said we will go and get the cash from my car. Once in we took off and never even drove past the lot again, lol.

ive only bought 2 new cars in the last 33 years.... one was right after i got married, just doing the young stupid thing...lol.... had a firebird and a jeep and the wife had a camaro..but we just "had to have a new car".......lol.... the next new one was a chevy 4 wheel drive truck in 06..... much like selectrics story...just dropped by out of curiosity, got the pushy salesman who wouldnt take no for an answer. hours of haggling then finally told him IF i bought it , it would be at "this" price, which of course he said couldnt be done.. it was actually an 05 model, and a manual transmission...i told him good luck with selling it........maybe hed find a buyer for it... funny thing was, was when we did the test drive, he couldnt move it because he couldnt drive manual...lol...... i got it at the price i was willing to pay....... hated making car payments ever since and havent bought a new one since then....lol

Long story short, we started walking out of the dealership three different times during negotiations, they gave us everything we asked for.
