Normally, this time of year is the only time I ask you to make a donation to the forum. This year, I'm asking you to do something different. I'm asking that you donate to a food bank in your area. With many who normally receive SNAP help who may not get it this month, with the many who are suddenly jobless, for the many who can't stretch the budget to meet the needs at a grocery store, please consider a donation to help others out this year. I really don't care if you're red, blue, or purple with pink polka dots...nobody should go hungry. This isn't about politics; it's about being there for those in need.

I'm personally impacted by this as my autistic son who lives with me normally gets a small amount of SNAP benefits that helps cover his food. I am blessed to have another son who will pitch in and help cover that gap if needed. Many others do not have that safety net. (It will be tight, but we'll have our food, our medications, and yes, I'll be able to pay the servers and keep us up and running here thanks to prior donations. :))

The photo below is the line outside a foodbank yesterday in a town close to me. It usually helps out 50 families a week. This week that doubled to a hundred families in need. One small plant and 4 businesses that went under added 50 families in need. I ask you to be kind, caring, and consider helping out a food bank in your area.

What a wonderful idea. And may I add that when you go shopping, throw in some fun foods. Beef jerky, peanuts and sunflower seeds. Chips, snack cakes, dried fruits, kids' cereal. Nice soups. Condiments.

Exactly. I have been someone in those food lines long ago. My suggestion is that whatever you decide to purchase, make it something you would enjoy yourself. We can usually manage to get the pasta and rice, but those "extra's" that fill out not only the needs but also the wants of children and elderly are like getting Christmas presents. The day I found a small bag of coffee on that shelf I almost burst into tears.

I have had to use food banks too, in the past. When I found a couple of cans of gourmet soup it was so nice!

Preston and Steve will be having their week long Camp Out For Hunger event soon. Not only is it a gathering of local celebs, bands and fans from all over the country, it is a huge boost for Philabundance. I want to try to make it this year and make a donation in person. Really fun time and it's for a great cause. Kudos to Preston and Steve and WMMR for an event that has been growing exponentially for years now.
