A Mars anomaly hunter studying images from NASA's Curiosity Rover believes that he has discovered the remnants of an ancient statue which seems to depict the head of a warrior.

The strange object was spotted by researcher Joe White in a photo which was taken back in 2009, but only released by the space agency earlier this month.

Although the anomaly may appear to be rather sizeable, he explains that the scale of the image suggests that it is, in fact, only a few inches wide.

Nonetheless, White marvels that the oddity bears an uncanny resemblance to a human-looking head that appears to be wearing some kind of helmet.

This led him to conclude that the object once comprised the top of a statue that may have honored an ancient Martian warrior from the distant past.

Skeptics, of course, will counter his claims with the argument that the object is only a rock that imaginative observers perceive to be something more fantastic thanks to the pareidolia phenomenon.

It certainly looks like a Roman warrior ! Amazing find regardless if it’s real or imagined.
