The homeless often have nothing but that animal as family. And it truly becomes family. Working in the medical field, the one thing I always advocated for was pet visits. I even snuck a skunk up to the unit once. The lady had a pet skunk and she was so unhappy not being able to see it. We thought she would recover, but something told me to get that skunk in there to see her. Glad I did. Within 48 hours she had thrown a clot and died, but that visit with her pet meant the world to her.

Your game handling a skunk I'd imagine but good on you.People underestimate how therapeutic pets can be,or in that case consoling.

I used to have a fishpond outside near my back door. One day I was doing some house chores when I heard a voice crying for help.I looked out the back window but nobody was there,it kept crying"help me".I went outside and still nothing, then I looked down and a goldfish had jumped out of the pond and was flipping around on the ground,I scooped it up and put it back in.The voice stopped. The family laughed and teased me about it for weeks until I read an article in a mag about a lady that had done the same with her fish.It took away the self doubt that had been laughed into me.A strange story, but true.

Had a very large aquarium for awhile with two tire track eels in it. I named them Goodrich and Goodyear. I used to chase those two excapees all the time. I don't doubt you a bit. I always "heard" them out of the tank.

Wish I had the patience to keep a fish tank. I love watching them.

Once set up a fresh water tank doesn't take too much to keep up. Salt water is a whole nuther story board.

One of the reasons I started this thread was because of a bit of new activity in my home.

I have a large curio cabinet in my living room. It's filled with stuff from my mom, and a few items from this Hollywood friend of mine. The last week my son and I have been "catching" some movement out there. The last two nights we've had two of the dogs sitting in front of it staring at it about 3 am doing "hello! Hi!" yips at the cabinet. Wagging tails and happy puppies out there. Seems we have a visitor.

My son and I have both seen a light mist come through this week. Coincidentally, I have been doing some downsize "cleaning" and throwing out things. Some of that has been stuff from my mom that I can no longer use nor does anyone else in the family want. I prefer a more minimilist lifestyle vs. my mom who never had an open space she couldn't fill with something. My guess is it may be her guarding her "things" in that cabinet. So I'm going to cut a deal with her to not touch those items but the rest has to go. We'll see if that stops our 3 AM visitor! But the dogs have been the key to this....they are very happy to greet whoever is visiting out there. Both dogs were around when mom was alive, so I'm guessing they are happy to see her.
