What puzzles me is why they kept trying to paint over the image, if it was believed that an angel left it there? 
This is only about an hour away from me. My granddaughter wants to go see the Great Serpent Mound in nearby Peebles, may have to swing by this church when we go.

Makes you wonder where the door is now. Vatican come and haul it away? I really hope they didn't just chuck it in a trash heap. Sites like that around the US are on my bucket list. Pretty cool your granddaughter is interested in visiting it.
It is so sad to me that the very place where people are supposed to believe in miracles and God would destroy the evidence that could help build faith in people. These same people will deny anything mystical or out of the ordinary but profess to believe in God and angels. Please make it make sense. What a shame that they either destroyed or took away something so marvelous that was obviously left for a reason and would have been inspiring to so many.
