Explorers in India have discovered thousands of ancient petroglyphs atop hills in India and they suspect that they were created by a lost civilization. The remarkable drawings depict humans and a number of different animals as well as odd geometric designs. According to the BBC, experts who examined the petroglyphs say that the manner in which they were created suggests that they date back to prehistoric times.

Sudhir Risbood and Manoj Marathe are credited as the researchers responsible for uncovering the vast array of ancient drawings. The duo became intrigued by the petroglyphs after spotting a handful of the drawings in various villages where the artwork was considered sacred. Risbood and Marathe subsequently went on a quest to find more of the petroglyphs. The vast majority of the drawings had been concealed by the proverbial sands of time and literal dirt and mud.

The nature of the petroglyphs, experts say, shed some light on the community of people who made them as they seem to give no indication of any agricultural knowledge. Perhaps the most wondrous detail about the drawings is that some of them are of animals which are not native to India, such as hippos and rhinos. Archaeologists are uncertain if this means that the people of the time had come from a place where those creatures live or if such animals actually resided in India in the distant past.

This are like the Nasca lines. It is amazing they have lasted so long.
