There is a possibility people hinted at reincarnation in the bible.

John 1:21 (KJV) "And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias [Elijah]? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No."
Keep in mind the question was directed at John the Baptist.

Why would a Jewish priest ask if he was a long dead prophet (with all due respect) if there was no belief in reincarnation?
