Seems like most sites I go to these days are plastered with ads or behind paywalls, or going to try a paywall! I've always kept this site free of ads and work on donations only...which I thank you for your support. Donations are always very welcome and much needed.

What I found today was there are so many "trackers" on these ads they can actually slow down your computer. Just added an ad blocker for my laptop and boy! The speed is back!

I know FOX news is behind an "information" wall, which takes your email for tracking but allows you to read for free if you do it. I now see CNN is thinking of going a similar route. Many other news sources are already behind actual paywalls.

Do you subscribe and pay for any of the sites out there?
Do you ever find the ads on sites helpful and click on them?

I used to subscribe to a few sites like the NY Times, but found that I wasn't reading them, so I canceled. It hardly seems worth it.

There are ways to get around paywalls. I've used an extension in the past. Here's a link to an article that shows some ways.

I usually just do a "Select All" and "Copy" before the paywall pops up. Then paste the text into an editor and read it. Of course, that only works for the text, not the pictures.

No, I don't subscribe to anything online other than streaming tv. I will admit to considering a sub to YouTube because the ads drive me crazy. There is a makeup one for older ladies that plays on every ad break that makes me nuts. I haven't relented yet. I just take a break from my phone lol.

This is a good opportunity to remind everyone to donate a little each month to help keep this sight ad free. Debi shouldn't have to carry everyone even though she does every month with no complaint.

I use Firefox as my browser for most things. The cool thing about Firefox, is that you can use an app for blocking ads. I can enjoy YouTube ad free.

Do you have to pay for this service Garnet? if so is it expensive?

I use Brave which has automatic ad blocker built in. It even has a widget on the homepage that tracks how many adds it's blocked for you.
