Another idea for your wife is to make yarn bowls. I have a wooden one that my yarn ball sits in. It has a place to feed they yarn through. It keeps the ball neat and in place. Here’s a pic of my wooden one.

I believe it's a Japanese cultural thing. The hole and notch are to hold the chopsticks when they aren't eating the rice.

I bought one of those for my DIL. She loves them! The more unique the happier she is.

She's made them before at the request of other customers and they didn't sell. So she discontinued them.
