Goldfish are carp, and carp are known for growing as large as their ecosystem allows.

I was relieved to see he did a catch and release on this guy. Any fish that can grow that big and only be caught once deserves to live on!

What a beautiful fish. Nature is amazing. I am so happy they let him go. Poor fish. My mom threw 4 Koi into her backyard pond (its quite large and deep), about 10 years ago after she was tired of having a fish tank. They are still out there and have grown to over a foot long each. Somehow, they survive the winter out there.
