I remember doing that as a kid at my grandmother's. She used to buy them by the bushel.
One year we bought 5 bushels for canning. OMG...I was snapping and canning for 3 days. It was all I did during that time period. We also did corn every year.
 
I don't think us too long but I think I remember she'd freeze some of it for later use instead of canning.
Many people froze corn, but I didn't have the freezer space so canning it was.
