I can't see it, but then again I can't see the air we breath but I know it's out there... I'll stay inside

I get an organic veg box delivered weekly and have done for about 5 years now. Just had an email saying they are putting the price up by £2 as the supermarkets are bidding up the supply costs because they are running out of stocks. Then went onto say that most of the mid spring supplies come from Europe or Italy and Spain in particular, and considering their problems and restrictions there WILL be lack of supply in the near future.
Combine this with the fact that we buy in mostly American rice, and pasta from Italy, and these are now being stockpiled in their own countries - it doesn't look good.
I'd give it another 2-3 months before we are on a diet of potatoes.

If that is all we have then there will also be a massive demand for them too, and it is unlikely to last.

Personally, I'm growing as much as I physically can at the moment. Even swiss chard - which I hate, but is ok in soups. I am growing the easy salad crops that are enough for 10x my personal needs, but hope to trade some of that for eggs or favours later. Lots of green veg - kale, brocolli, spinach, lettuce, rocket, mustard, chard, sorrel, french bush and climbing beans, and rhubarb, plus some extras such as cellery, mint, thyme, chives, basil, sage, rosemary, dill, loads of onions, spring onions, potatoes, carrots, and the fruit - strawberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, hopefully some raspberries and apples this year as they are new plants. I have two types of tomato plants, a dwarf variety and a cherry variety, but because of being in Scotland I have never managed to get any to fruit.

I'm beginning to think that you might be signaling a lean towards greater self-sufficiency that will soon be felt throughout the culture. It will be one of the lasting transitional effects of this virus. It seems to follow naturally from social distancing and disruptions in the supply chain.

Please stay safe Debi, and Everyone for that matter. We topped over 1,000 cases as of today.

Kiddos and myself stay home and don't leave our yard (or yards as we have neighbors who let them play in theirs also because they really don't spend much time out) Hubby is essential so he goes out but we make him strip in garage to robe, then straight into the shower. Although I've been threatening to make him stay in the garage when we near the peak time range
