Worst hair ever....

I have mostly had long hair since the late 60s but when I got sick my hair got sort of lifeless and dry so I braided it and cut it. It was ok at first but then it grew back WILD!!! Years of having long hair did something to the roots I guess but as it started to grow back it grew straight UP. You couldn't hold that stuff down with Rave 4X mega hold!!! That won't happen again. I looked like Giorgio A. Tsoukalos, the ancient alien guy! 6 months and a lot of conditioners finally tamed it again and I settled on a middle long amount of hair. I could have a ponytail but it would be puny. I think that I like it here pretty well. the only problem is when I wear a hat it tries to give me a flip on the sides and makes me think of Mr. Haney on Green Acres.
Best hair story ever. Thanks for making me smile this morning Dan.

Thinking back I don't really recall having "bad" hair, at most there were some days that I just didn't know what I wanted to do with it. One day in 8th grade I spent about 20 minutes combing it in different ways before just putting a bunch of gel in it and slicking it back. That wasn't what I wanted but it was quick and easy to do as my Mom was threatening to leave without me. A few people at school made comments like "what's wrong with your hair" or "what did you do to your hair" but nobody else really noticed or cared. It was actually kind of freeing because I now understood that it was my hair and I didn't need to try impressing others with it.

In highschool I got a flat top, but didn't like it. I decided not to get another haircut until I knew what style I wanted. Except that there was a lot of other stuff happening in life at that time so I never took the time to really think about what hair style I wanted so I didn't get a haircut for the next two years. My friends would point to photos of me with the flat top and then look at me with the long wavy hair halfway down my back and would call me Lt. Dan.

When I was in the Army stationed in the Texas heat I dyed my hair blonde. Dark colors absorb heat so I figured lightening my hair would keep me cooler in the desert sun. It worked too! Changing my dark brown hair to light blonde made the top of my head feel like it was a good 5 degrees cooler in the sun. Then one day I put the bleach in my hair and was waiting the recommended 20-30 minutes before washing it out when a friend came by asking for my help. He had just bought a new stereo, speakers and amplifier for his car and asked if I could install it. I jumped right up, grabbed my tools and went to work on his new sound system. Some other people joined in on the experience and soon we were all drinking beers, sitting around his car with the doors open and music blasting. Then someone asked me "Hey, aren't you going to need to wash that stuff out of your hair?" At this point the bleach had been in my hair for about two hours. When I washed it out everyone stared making Billy Idol jokes.

Wow, Tony! You look like a wild wizard!

OK, I'm about to go for a self cut. I figure nobody will see me anyway.

Oh heck, let one of the guys do it. No one will see it but them.

Tony should let it grow and just slick it back.
