Well, Dan....an article that supports us BOTH.

Coronavirus should be treated as “public enemy number one” — posing a bigger threat than terrorism, the World Health Organization has warned.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus insisted Tuesday that the virus — now formally named COVID-19 — is “a very grave threat” well beyond China, where it originated and has killed at least 1,113 people.

The world needs to “wake up and consider this enemy virus as public enemy number one,” Tedros warned.

“A virus is more powerful in creating political, social and economic upheaval than any terrorist attack,” Tedros told reporters in Geneva.

“It’s the worst enemy you can imagine.”

So far, the virus has infected over 45,000 people worldwide — although 99 percent of the cases have occurred within China and only two fatalities have been reported outside the Chinese mainland.

But Tedros said it was “concerning” that person-to-person transmissions to people with no travel history to China had recently appeared in France and Britain.

His alert follows other warnings that 60 to 80 percent of the world’s population could be sickened by the virus, resulting in a massive global death toll.

On the gloom and doom side, there is evidence that the human species has been plagued by this sort of thing throughout its existence. I read an article the other day about this. Our DNA is of a very small base. At one time 50 to 80 thousand years ago something came very close to wiping us out. The number of survivors comes out to as low as 5 thousand people total worldwide. One possibility that they have come up with is that an early version of tuberculosis mutated and had a just massive mortality rate. The survivors were those that had some resistance to it and so that is still with us today. There is some speculation that most plagues, in the end, do the same thing. they don't disappear, they just kill everyone that has no resistance and the rest move on.

The last approximately 100 years we have been sheltered from even the minor levels of this sort of thing as we have one by one wiped out the killers of the past like smallpox, polio, syphilis, yellow fever and on and on with vaccines and powerful antibiotics. We still don't have a very good handle on viral disease. At best we have to wait until one pops up and then we try to make a vaccine to prevent the rest of the people from catching it. Our current medical care is rudimentary at best and still mostly supportive rather than curative once someone is infected by a virus.

It may take something that is terrifyingly deadly to get the powers that be to devote the money to the level of research that it will take to learn to deal with viral infections as effectively as we now do most bacterial infections. If all nations would devote one-tenth of what they spend on weapons and war to this it can be dealt with. I look at this as I do a lot of things. It is an IQ test for us as a species. The A-Bomb was an IQ test. We were smart enough to make the dam things but were/are we smart enough not to use them to destroy ourselves. Understand, there are MANY more extinct species than there are living species. Mother Earth is harsh and unforgiving of weakness or stupidity.

Deb, if you feel that this is too dark, feel free to delete it...

You're fine, Dan. Facts are facts, hon.

OK, I'm going to post a batch of headlines now. Some are scary. What I do want to point out is the sudden increase in cases is due to how they are counting now. I've said over and over they are under-reporting cases and deaths. They have just added in additional "clinical" cases, which are different from "confirmed" by test results. They have not added in the clinical deaths as they have lost tracking of that. It appears WHO is holding their feet to the fire on reporting issues over there. It's my belief they have lost count of the entire thing at this point and the figures are still very under what the actual is.

Yes we have similar headlines here now too.
They are talking about the sudden increase here too. I think they have lost count of the entire thing that’s what I am getting from the headlines.

It has to as dark as it is,the Earth just can't sustain the burdening human population and is going to keep throwing these counter measures as quick as we find a cure.I don't hate people but there is just too many of us,even as a little kid I thought this and always thought that when I do die it will be one less person the Earth has to deal with.People dying is normal, the Earth dying before it's time, with us to blame, is beyond reckoning.

It's something the world needs to address asap before we become extinct. In old times there were blood thirsty wars that kept down the numbers, surely we have the brains now to think of a better solution.
