I don't think it's fear that drives this either, even hard characters like Chopper Reid here in Oz,a notorious criminal, stand over man and comedian, when dying, said he was going to be with Jesus.I don't think he feared death but acknowledged a heaven when he was close. If he is welcomed there it gives hope for all of us lol. I think my childhood turned me against the idea but even I have reached out for God's help when there seemed no hope, and it always came through.

I believe that God is always willing to forgive us, but he has a very strict rule on that and is, he will forgive us as along as we forgive others, that have sinned against us, This is in the Lords prayer. We must replace our hate and bitterness for others with love. This can be very hard to do, forgiving someone that has caused you a lot of pain.

I used to have a friend that was in the airforce, and he told me that when they were dropping bombs on Vietnam, his co pilot was an atheist and the anti aircraft shells were exploding next to the plane, he saw his co pilot praying for his life, and he told him, hey what are you doing you do not believe in God>>, and he said well just in case I die it can't hurt. He said he never had an atheist fly with him that did not find God when they were about to die.
I've come to the conclusion over the years that Atheism is little more than an intellectual luxury that is afforded only to those with a full belly, who live in a safe environment and have all of their needs met.

That’s pretty amazing when you think about it. I think god puts us in difficult situations so we can find him. Also I think that everything in this life is a test.
Yes I couldn’t agree more! Everyone’s path is different.

I think they gave you good advice without knowing what he said. If it was good sound advice then it might have been an Angel that spoke to you or maybe your brother, after all you are a very spiritual person, but someone told me the other day, that his mother that passed away appeared to him and he is of a strong religious belief that our relatives do not reappear to us as spirits, that it is not possible, so he ignored his mothers spirit thinking it was going to try to trick him some way. This guy has had a slue of demonic activity in his life and encounters with DM etc, stemming from his grandmother being a witch, so of course you have to see where he is coming from also. I also had a very religious person tell me that demons cannot talk to you telepathically and this other guy said they can and they can read your mind, also had a medium tell me she was being stalked and terrorized by a DM that would go to her window at night, and God had to help her to escape in a way to block it from reading her mind so it could not follow her when she fled the house, she was laid up in bed for 4 months afterwards she was so traumatized by it, scariest story I ever heard. I guess the point I am trying to make is that everyone thinks they know what is true but maybe they really don't, or we just do not know which one to believe.
Good points. We really don’t know what the answers are. We are basing what we believe by what we’ve been taught, experience and research. Nobody has all the answers.

I think we can forgive as an act of our will and intention. Give the emotion to god. We can not help what we feel. The fact that we intend to forgive puts us in right standing as far as i understand it.

Good point, they don’t need god. Sad because this life is very short.

You make a good point there Lynn, I have someone that is steeling from me on a yearly basis and it is very hard for me to forgive, but I keep trying, for one reason if I do not it will destroy me, and the person that is hurting me probably feels none of what I feel.

That sounds like a tough situation. I hope you can stop the crime against you. Forgiveness does not mean that offenders get off without facing legal obligations. It is a gift you give yourself in my opinion. The emotions come as a natural reflex but your will in forgiveness is a choice. The heat of emotion will generally ease over time.

I have found that one of the hardest things I have ever learned to do, was to forgive myself. When I am hard on myself, I am finding it harder to be forgiving. One of my birthday resolutions was to forgive myself when I make a mistake or give in to negativity. When I do, I find that it is much easier to tolerate the mistakes of other people.

I have learned some interesting things from this thread.
