Decorating

When I was a kid I grew up in a house with a vaulted ceiling. Dad made sure that that was filled up with Christmas tree.
1 day right before school, PorkChop the cat toppled it.
It was a busy morning because we had to go straight out the door. My brother and I had to catch the bus and my mom had to go teach School. Dad had clients.

Darn kitties lol. Mine was taken down a few times by the cats. The worst was my toddler daughter. She crawled under it and toppled the tree. So many antique and collected ornaments broke that day. I gave up on buying anything expensive for decorating. I was heartbroken. However relieved that my child was not harmed.

Oh Yes!. My GF is generally accepted to be the Index Case (a.k.a., Patient Zero) for that dreaded disorder.

Symptoms are brought on by watching HGTV, the DIY Channel, and just about any of the Hallmark holiday movies.

The only effective treatment I’ve found to temporarily suppress the symptoms seems to be an all day marathon of Hallmark’s The Good Witch movie series. It acts as a form of aversion therapy. Unintended side effect is FFS - Fall Fantasy Syndrome - triggered by the viewing of a stray on-screen pumpkin.

Unfortunately for me POPD is both incurable and degenerative. As the disorder has progressed, my GF tends to redecorate on an ever increasing frequency with a focus on small vignettes of imported, discounted, retail items.

When I had a lot of decorations up two years ago, I had my son and nephew do the decorating. BOTH are afflicted with this disorder. There was one table ornament that each felt must be on a different table. It was like Elf on a Shelf with it moving every time I looked. One kid would move it to His table and then when the other wasn't looking it would move back to the other table! This was so bad it was down to them getting up in the middle of the night to move the dang thing. I finally took it and put it on MY table and mandated it stay there. They were both a little twitchy with my placement....lol
