My grandparents raised me, my grandfather taught me responsibility and that whatever I do to always do it to the best of my abilities and always see it through to the finish...as a child I thought he knew everything and had been everywhere, he told me about England, France and Germany...always good stories, I never knew why he was there until my teen years..he taught me to fish, shoot, hunt and work...when I turned 18 i joined the military, he told me if that's what I wanted, to at least do it right and join the infantry, AIRBORNE...everything else was just fun and games....lol.....
He was in the 101st ab div.. Until the end of the war... I so wanted him to pin my wings on but he passed away while I was in Infantry school..... I do miss him

That is a beautiful tribute to him.

My dads father passed when I was 4 but I have a clear memory of him being gentle and kind. My moms father lived till I was 11. He was a distinguished man who worked hard. I felt both of their losses throughout my life. Good men that would have been wonderful to know as an adult.

I never had the opportunity to meet my Moms Father, but I met my Fathers father once. When we met, he gave me a tight hug, cheek to cheek and to this day I can still feel his Whiskers on my face. I was around 5/6 years of age. I will always cherish that memory... Oh yeah, he didn't have plumbing and I wet myself because I was too afraid to use the Outhouse that was about 20 maybe 30 feet from his home. It was dark and scary... just saying..

I lived with my grandparents until 7years old,My grandad passed when I was 12.I remember him as a very gentle, easy going guy,I took his passing at 57 very hard.Luckily my grandma lived until I was 54,she was always my favourite family member,a very tough women,I always felt safe and secure when she was around, even when in her 90's.

Unfortunately, I did not know either of my grandfathers. One died before I was born, and the other I never knew. I have always felt that I missed out!
Same with me, garnetsilver. I knew one Grandmother who stayed with us briefly. I am so glad that my girls knew their Grandparents.
