some advice please

Hi Jenny, welcome to the forum. :)

I've just logged in so am going to take a bit of time to read your posts properly. It's good you posted though, there are some good people here for advice. As Debi said, the first thing to do is look for normal explanations first then paranormal. I was just wondering, you live in a maisonette, do you have shared attic space?

By the way I am also in the UK. Welcome to the forum again. :)

I am lying here in bed, it is 22.29 in the UK, not sure where most posters on here are from, and not sure whether to turn my lamp off or not, in case it goes back on. I am also listening to various bangs and noises coming from downstairs. I have placed items against the front door as the lock was damaged, to make sure we are safe from intruders but I keep hearing noises like someone is moving around downstairs, I will check in a minute but know there wont be anyone there.

One thing that is odd about the doorbell thing, I wake up just before it goes off, almost like I know its about to happen what ever time it is. Last night it went at 2.22 am
Jenny, just from what I've read of your situation, it's possible this is poltergeist activity. Poltergeist literally means "noisy ghost." (And I picked up you were in the UK from some of your word usage. We are located in the United States, specifically I am in Indiana.)

Now, the poltergeist is an interesting thing in that it's actually "created", totally without conscious will, by a person or persons living in the home. It's actually energy that comes from the person and begins to form into a chaotic energy form. This is totally out of the control of the individual/individuals that are involved. I cannot tell you for sure this is or is not what is happening, but it is a possible reason for what is occurring. This happens most frequently with younger people who suppress their psychic energy. That energy needs to go somewhere and sometimes it comes out doing this. That is the reason I asked the age of your daughter.

Now, the trigger to this is normally stress of some sort or grief or sadness, etc. Some form of high emotion within the person.

Hi Rosie, thank you for the welcome. There is no attic or shared attic space, the massionette has a flat roof. I would like a normal explanation if possible. Its the doorbell thing that is the most confusing to be honest, just cant think how it can work without batteries or wires and why different tunes and why in the middle of the night and not the daytime :)

Hi Debi, that could be true of my daughter, she has heightened emotions and a very sensitive sort of person, she loved her grandma very much and was devastated when she passed last year. An event that happened many years ago in our old house when she was about 12 comes to mind, she has a massive argument with her brother and the washing machine door suddenly flung open on its own, it was very odd but we sort of put it behind us and moved on without questioning it.

The doorbell made me wonder too, if it was just things in the house I would investigate power surges/faulty electrics etc. But the doorbell and a few other things don't fit that. Debi's post re: poltergeist activity does make sense to me, though I'm no expert.

Then this may be what you are dealing with. Repressed emotions plus psychic abilities and viola....poltergeist activity. The fact you had that episode in the past at age 12 tells me this may be what is happening. Let your daughter know it's nothing to fear, but perhaps she can try talking about some of her feelings more out loud instead of internally. The more she can let her emotions out in a physical manner, the less psychic chaos will happen in most cases.

thank you, that makes sense, do you think the front door lock being snapped off is a coincidence or connected, trying to work out if it was an attempted burglary or not

That one sounds more physical in nature and I would, for safety, consider it a separate event and investigate it as such. Not everything that happens will be from the poltergeist energy, so do play it safe.

The doorbell is loudest in my bedroom, literally sounds like its in my wardrobe, just wondering why it would be in my room if it was connected to my daughter. My son stayed over recently , I slept downstairs on a sofabed and gave him my room, he is a very logical down to earth 26 year old, but he heard the doorbell that night and said it freaked him out too
