ARE YOU PART OF SOCIAL MEDIA SITES SUCH AS INSTAGRAM OR FACEBOOK? TWEET ANY? OR HAVE YOU LEFT THEM OR AVOIDED THEM ALL ALONG?

I've never been a part of Social Media and I don't think I really want to.

A few years back I had a boss who really didn't like me and I didn't have the slightest clue why. After a few months she called me into her office as she was working on my performance review. She told me that while she was happy with my work she didn't entirely trust me because she looked me up online and couldn't find anything; no Twitter, no Facebook, no My Space, nothing. Being that I was the IT guy she figured that I must be using some sort of complicated internet hacks to keep my online presence hidden, it never occurred to her that a computer geek wouldn't actually have an online presence. Later she talked me into at least setting up a LinkedIn profile, so I did but haven't logged into it since.

Nada.
I figure if some of my friends or relatives post anything cool on Facebook, my Mom will show me.
I used to follow Clubproguy on Twitter. If he has a funny instructional video my Brother will tell me. It's a parody site about an egomaniac golf teaching pro that gives absolutely terrible advice.

I’m on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and I even have a Snapchat. Lol I primarily use Facebook to communicate with old friends from High School. A much smaller Instagram following and I use Twitter to rant on political issues. I rarely use Snapchat.

I avoid social media like the plague. At one time hubby and I belonged to a support group, and they communicated through a Yahoo message board (this was about ten years ago) and then they all decided to go on FB. I was pressured to create a profile there, and felt VERY uncomfortable with it. At first it was sort of fun, and I saw that lots of family and friends were on it. Then the drama started. I finally shut down the whole thing, and told family that if they want to contact me, to pick up the phone or email. There is something creepy about FB anyway, IMO.

I do have a personal page on FB...which is never used unless I need to reach all 24 "friends" in a hurry for a medical update. It's a very, very empty page...lol The only reason I keep it is I run our forum page on FB so I have to be part of it, and I pick up the memes and comics I use here. Another staff member runs our Twitter page. I'm bad enough keeping up with the FB page which I often forget...

I know that lots of people like social media because it helps them to keep up with friends and family, and it is good for that. It just isn't for everyone. Jim spends way too much time on there.:frowning:

I get friend requests all the time. Nope. I keep a very tight circle of only those I really might need to contact. And my son, the computer IT guy, has it set up with privacy blocks. I have to spend a lot of time screening things on the newsfeed for our site here, and it can be mind numbing after a bit.

Even though it is mind numbing, I am very glad that you have created this site and keep it running so well!

Thanks, Garnet. This site is a pleasure. The dang Facebook page that goes with it is where I often fall short....sigh.
