Lynyrd Skynyrd founding member Larry Junstrom dies aged 70 | Daily Mail Online

Lynyrd Skynyrd founding member Larry Junstrom has died at the age of 70.

After a brief spell in the iconic Seventies band, Junstrom went on to join 38 Special in 1977.

He was the band's long-standing bassist, until his retirement in 2014 following a hand injury.

The bass player was an original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, which he formed in the 1964 with his high school band mates - singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitar players Gary Rossington and Allen Collins, and drummer Bob Burns.

He left the band before the recording of its 1973 debut album, Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd, and was replaced by bassist Leon Wilkeson.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is known for hits including Sweet Home Alabama. The band disbanded abruptly in 1977 following a plane crash which killed Ronnie Van Zant, replacement guitarist Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines.
