Hi,

I always been interested in this ancient site, Stonehenge, and other "circles of stones" archeological sites in the Uk.

There are many theories of their purpose back then, up to 5000 years ago...

I think Stonehenge has been a healing site...(my own hypothesis)

I would like to know what do you think it was...

They could act as spiritual centers or types of initiations for mystic noobs. They also have probably strong magnetic activity like the bermuda triangle. Some believe them to be Earth's chakra points. Just like the pyramid of giza, some masonry scholars believed them to be used tools of spiritual initiations into buddha, christhood etc... It was not only a way of realizing your own inner nature but experiencing the metaphysical mysteries that lie beyond the waking world.

Thank you JohnHermes for sharing your findings...I think what you mentioned is very interesting and will add it to my personal information about it...

We have a lot of stone circles in Scotland, and have had some experiences in a couple.
Here is Daviot - Loanhead of Daviot Stone Circle Feature Page on Undiscovered Scotland
And Easter Aquhorthies - East Aquhorthies Stone Circle Feature Page on Undiscovered Scotland

As you see Daviot has a second ring that turned out to be a crematorium site from the Bronze Age. I met the 50 or so spirits that are still there.
Easter Aquorthies is much lighter in feeling, and there is one male guardian there.
Both are still currently in use.

There are many more smaller circles all over the place. Some are on the official OS maps, but many more are hidden in long grass at the sides of farmers fields and not even recorded as such. You only see them at the end of winter when the grass is flattened. There are also the Harestanes and woofstanes - again few are recorded, and a lot of large standing stones that are disappearing as new roads or housing is being built. Many of those are still used as altars too.

I have visited a few at midnight on full moons or solstice and the places are ....magical.

As to what I think stonehenge is - or how they built it. I think it was a meeting place, and the stones have travelled from distant corners. Each would represent a clan or group, and the leader of that group would sit infront of that stone.
I believe the top stones were placed during winter - after the area was filled with packed snow. This way it would be easier to drag the top stones on the snow into position, then wait for the snow to melt. The whole thing could easily be an ice house built with a wooden roof. In the summer simple woven panel sides would suffice.

It may have had one opening that aligned with the spring low sun, but I don't think that was the only reason for it being built. More of an architectural bonus - like having your house facing south.

I believe it was a place of council. A meeting place of leaders, Possibly a trade hub as well or certainly a summer fair.
It is better to talk to your neighbours and trade with them than be at war with them, so I believe this was the main reason - a place to air grievances and work on solutions. This was all before the time of kings and the feudal system.

Hi Rowan2222,

Thanks for the information and the links...that will be very informative for me.
I really liked your theory or hypothesis about using the snow to place the top stones and then it is in place when the snow melts...and who would have guessed it when it has melted indeed ... wow that is a very good "thinking-out-of-the-box" we say here :)
I also think you are close to a possibility with your intuition that the rocks would have been from different places and gathered there...indeed, if i am not mistaken, the standing stones at Stonehenge, are from different type of stones...so it would make a lot of sense...
You are lucky you were able to experience more then one circle in person and to be there at important times like solstice and full moon...one day i wish i will be able to go to ... Inshallah... :)

These are the two that are local to me.
I didn't know Daviot was a crematorium site until they all showed up! They didn't like me being in the middle either. Plus I don't think the centre should be the way it has been left by the archaeologists. I saw it as more of a flat pavement that you could walk on in bare feet. Like an earthen floor. The way they left it is all jagged stone - not right at all.
The next time I visited I stayed outside of the circle and they were happier with that. Two of them waved at me. Inside seemed to be sacred space.

Hi Rowan2222,

Maybe that have to do with leaving the floor this way, as to prevent people for going
in the centre if it is sacred space ?
Thanks for sharing your perception of the centre as being sacred...i will remember if i go one day :)

I had my own experience at Daviot! If you look at the picture in the link Rowan posted, directly across the second circle, in almost the center of the picture, is a kind of pointed egg-shaped stone. I had walked around the circle twice clockwise, then paused, and for some reason, reached out and put my hand on that stone. And I started crying. There was absolutely no reason for me be crying. It was a beautiful morning, misty with light rain; I had a full Scottish breakfast (except blood sausage! ew) in my belly, so it wasn't low blood sugar. I wasn't sad or upset about anything, but there I was, just crying. Not so much sadness, but some kind of nostalgia sorrow that was deep in my chest. I don't really know how to explain it. I've been back to Daviot since then, and while I still feel an affinity to that particular stone, I've never had that reaction again.
If there are truly over 50 spirits there, as Rowan has experienced, maybe it was one of them trying to get a message to me or connect with me somehow.

As to Stonehenge, modern archeology has pretty much confirmed that it was a meeting and gathering place for people for possibly centuries. We may never know its true purpose.

Just for ElliO. If you ever do go back to Daviot, there was another experience worth sharing.
I was with my partner who is also the same as me regarding ability. She saw the place being attacked, and she was pregnant and running away, but caught and killed. It was quite a vivid and violent snapshot, and she didn't want to go back and never has.

They have obviously found from the archaeology that it was a crematorium site, but it makes me wonder if it is that way just because there was a mass slaughter there and they burned the bodies, rather than it being a slow and methodical ritualistic site spanning centuries.

If you get the chance try sitting just outside the circle looking in and meditate for a while. See who shows up.

Also saw a deer there just the other side of the fence, but right up against it. I looked at it, it looked at me, then wandered off.
Saw another yesterday on a walk along the railway line.

I used to lead B&B and archeology tours of Scotland. I'd love to go back with just my partner and one or two people that I'm NOT responsible for and just experience it without that kind of pressure.

As to it being a mass burial/massacre site, the archeology doesn't support that. Dating shows the site was built and added to over two centuries, and recovered ash remains were found with broken pottery, indicating that the ashes had been transported and prepared for burial.

The impression your partner received is probably spot-on, though, with the images of some kind of attack. Over two centuries, there were probably all kinds of battles, attacks, etc.
