In Championship National level bodybuilding in the 80s and early 90s was a 6-month cycle of getting big followed by six months of getting lean and conditioned.
So for four consecutive years my life was dictated by my diet. I was miserable because I had to eat so much food 6 times a day for 6 months. And then I was miserable because I had to eat so little food 6 times a day for 6 months.
The upshot was it gave me the confidence that I would always know that I would make the cut. (TOP 5.) And from there always be in the mix for the title. 10 #1s, 3#2s, 1 #3s.
Still friends with a lot of the old gang. You would be shocked if I told you how many of my friends died in their thirties.
Yes happy I did it and sacrificed relationships on the way, that's all I can say about those days.
