That's scary stuff. When I was security guard, one night I was left in a cabin with a metal frame on high metal stilts in the middle of nothing in a really falt area during a storm. I never went out for as many patrols as during that night, despite the rain.

And yet I was okay. I'm not sure if you are more lucky or less for the near miss.

Wow! An office I was working in years ago during a thunderstorm I had a phone and fax machine on my desk and both popped loudly with some smoke as they were destroyed when lightning hit the phone lines outside. As a kid the advice was to remove the aerial cable from the back of the TV as the aerial on the roof could be hit and destroy the TV or even cause a fire.

We stlll have lightning rods here on the house. To ground it if it hits. We got really tired of all our stuff frying on a regular basis.
