7-17-2018 Tuesday Live Chat Thread

good morning folks....hope everyone is having a great day.

Evening friends. I thought I'd share a wee story from my past.

Years ago I worked for Scottish Youth Hostels Association employed to develop the software for a booking system. I got the job because friends who worked for the association put me forward to senior management which resulted in me having the choice of where I wanted to work since the job was live in. I chose to live in one of the hostels in Edinburgh run by one of my friends. It was a great place to live and work getting to meet visitors from all over the world and being in Edinburgh was no hardship either.

All staff live in mostly shared rooms however I was given a small apartment to myself which was obviously an extension built on to the the rear of the old Georgian terrace sometime after it was built, incidentally the US Consulate were neighbours.

Literally from the first night I stayed there I would wake up to nightmares and never felt comfortable when I was in there, after a couple of nights I actually slept with the light on. After a week of this I plucked up the courage to talk about this with the boss my friend expecting some mild ridicule. He just sighed and said not to worry about it as nobody who stays there lasts more than a week, he already had an alternative room available for me. He then told me a little about the history of the building.

Originally it would have been the residence of a rich family and their servants but eventually became a hotel. During the first world war it was used as hospital for soldiers recuperating from injuries and at that time the extension was built and used as a morgue for those who died from their wounds. Whether this has any bearing on what people feel there I don't know but by far the most uncomfortable place I've ever stayed in.

Wow, that would have been unsettling knowing all those people died there. So, did you end up staying in the room?!
